Hey Stoopid!: Browns-Steelers Edition

Terry Bradshaw is stupid
Mitchell Blatt

Terry Bradshaw is Stoopid!

With the Browns (5-3) playing the Steelers (6-2) for a share of the AFC North lead, Clevelanders are acting understandably stoopid. They seem to have forgotten that the Browns have lost the last eight (and missed the spread on the last eight) and that we are playing the Steelers on the road after losing week one to the Steelers 34-7. Now, I know things are different now (and so does the Plain Dealer, judging by their sports section), but the Steelers still appear to be a vastly more talented team.

The cover of the Plain Dealer begs to differ. It shows the Browns stats week one against Pittsburgh compared to the Browns stats the next seven games. Surprisingly, the Browns have been much better in the past seven games:

Week 1-Next 7
First downs: 13-21.1
Yds/Carry: 2.9-4.4
Times Sacked: 6-1

Obviously, this means that the Browns are much better than they were week one, and they are able to take down the Steelers. Or it could just mean that the Steelers are much better than the rest of the Browns opponents. Yeah, I’m going with that.

Cincinnati, Oakland, Baltimore, New England, Miami, St Louis, and Seattle have combined for a 21-36 record. Among them, only three have winning records (including Seattle and Baltimore, both 4-4). Two of them (Miami and St Louis) still have 0 wins, and the Browns actually played them back-to-back. After losing to the 2-6 Raiders, of course.

They were losing to Oakland most of the game but they came back to miss the game-winning field goal. Thus illustrating another problem. The Browns often have to comeback to win. Against Seattle, they were down 21-9 at halftime. The Rams game also featured a comeback for a 7 point victory.

If the Browns do this against the Steelers… Well, the Steelers allow 12 points a game (1st in the NFL), so the Browns won’t be able to comeback. Just remember what the Steelers did to the Ravens last week in Monday Nigh Football. They piled it on 38-7. Let’s leave it at that.
