Winning Bidder for Bonds’ Record HR Ball Sets Up Online Poll to Determine Ball’s Fate
Even if the MLB doesn’t put an asterisk next to Barry Bonds’ name in the record books, there can still be an asterisk on his record-breaking home run ball. Or it can be sent to the moon. It’s you call. Online bid winner, Marc Ecko, owner of Ecko Unlimited clothing, has set up an online poll to determine the ball’s fate.
You can vote here. Ecko spent $752,467 on the ball. At first glance, it’s just a rich man having fun with his money, but the publicity he gets from this might very well be worth it. While he actually he three options in his poll: 1.) send it to Cooperstown as is 2.) send it with an asterisk emblazened on it 3.) send it to outer space, it is pretty obvious that option #2 will win. I just hope Cooperstown displays it. Here are what my options would be for such a poll:
-Let Michael Vick’s dogs chew on it.
-Display it in a Las Vegas hotel and see how long it takes OJ to rob it.
-Leave it on IRS Commissioner Mark Everson’s front doorstep and have him pay the taxes on it.
